About Chippenham Twinning Association
Chippenham Twinning Association was formed in 1981 with the object of promoting friendships and educational and cultural understanding between the residents of Chippenham and towns in continental Europe. Twinning with La Flèche, France was achieved in 1981 and with Friedberg, Germany in 1992.
We are particularly keen to encourage the development of personal contacts and visits, especially by families and young people but also by individuals and groups to and from linked towns.
Visits
The highlights of our calendar are the exchange visits we make with our twin towns. Annual visits are made to either Friedberg or La Flèche where members receive a friendly welcome and stay with host families. The Twinning Associations of La Flèche and Friedberg, in turn, send regular groups to Chippenham. In this way many new friendships and made, pleasant holidays are taken and an exchange of hobbies and interests take place. We can also be instrumental in helping to establish student, sporting, business and professional contacts. You can find out more about our visits by

Activities
Social get togethers Throughout the year we organise a wide range of social activities for our members so that we can all keep in touch and promote a truly friendly club spirit. These have included wine tasting, skittles, concerts, talks, ghost and heritage walks, conversation classes, Boules matches, as well as meals, theatre trips and bonfire night suppers – to name but a few. Some of these events will be open to non members but they will always be asked to pay more for their ticket than a member.
Other activities
The Twinning Association is actively involved with local schools and colleges and provides prizes and trophies which are awarded to students who have achieved high standards in modern languages.
We will also support school exchange visits and provide assistance to local groups (musical, sporting and arts) who are visiting our twin towns to give concerts and shows or take part in joint sporting activities.
Updates
The Association publishes regular newsletters to keep members up to date with all that is happening. Contributions from members are also always welcome.
Links with other Twinning Associations
In addition to all our other activities, we maintain liaison with all local Twinning Associations and support them wherever and whenever we can.
